How NERDC Structures Subjects Across Nigerian Schools

The Nigerian education system has a structured approach to curriculum. The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, known as NERDC, is the body responsible for developing and reviewing the national curriculum. The Three Education Levels Nigerian education follows a 6-3-3-4 structure: Primary School (6 years), Junior Secondary School (3 years), and Senior Secondary School (3 years). Each level has its own set of approved subjects, learning objectives, and assessment expectations. Primary School Subjects At the primary level, the curriculum emphasizes breadth. Students encounter English Language, Mathematics, Basic Science and Technology, Social Studies, Cultural and Creative Arts, Physical and Health Education, Nigerian Languages, Religious Studies, Agricultural Science, and Home Economics.
